Our take: There’s been a lot of buzz for The Lighthouse and The Whaler, the indie band from the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With “In Motion”, their latest single, the buzz will only increase. It’s a euphoric and anthemic number with a soaring chorus and fantastic melodies. But what we appreciate the most about the single is that it’s not overproduced and no one instrument or sound dominates, which often happens with songs that attempt to hit really high climaxes. In addition, the band and their producers do a great job at reining in the music before it reaches the overly climatic proportions of mainstream electro-pop. As a result, the listener always stays engaged and, thus, can appreciate the brilliance of the song.

What’s next: “In Motion” is the second single from The Lighthouse and The Whaler’s forthcoming album, Mont Royal. The record comes out August 28 via Roll Call Records. The first single, “I Want to Feel Alive”, which has a Ra Ra Riot feel, is below.
