It’s hard to believe the ACL Festival will be here in less than a month. It seems like we were just recapping some of the artists’ experiences from SXSW. As we gear up and get ready to cover the second weekend of the festival, we reached out to a few of our favorites on the line up. Avers were kind enough to answer a few questions for us and we are super grateful.
Avers will be playing the second weekend of ACL. Get there early Friday October 9, 2015. Avers plays on the HomeAway stage from 11:30am-12:15pm so get up early and check this awesome band out! Questions were answered by Adrian. Avers is comprised of Adrian/Alex/James/JL/Tyler/Charlie.
How was the summer tour? Are you all ready to head back to Austin this fall for ACL? Hopefully the 100 degree weather will be gone by then.
Tour was fun as hell. I got to make my first cross country drive and that is nothing to shake a stick at. It kinda makes me wish I had been doing this whole rock band since I was a teenager… and not cooped up in recording studios.. who knows the grass is always greener, right?
Austin!? Are you kidding? We love Austin – I’ll take it any time of the year.
Really digging the new track Vampire..do you have a title for the upcoming album yet or a time frame release?
Thanks! Well we’re not quite ready to talk about titles or release dates, but what I can tell you is that we mixed the record with Peter Kadis since putting that track out which was an awesome experience. It’s a really big sounding record and is way more representative of the band we are now. Empty Light (our first record) was actually a recording experiment within the Richmond, VA community that accidentally produced a band (us). This next one is most definitely an Avers record. It’s coming soon I promise!!
What has been your favorite show or festival to play so far this year?
Well, there was this magical night while we were supporting J Roddy Walston and the Business in Wilmington, NC, a city that neither of us had played as far as I know, and the whole room just came so ready to rock the fuck out. As an opener, sometimes you don’t get the enthusiasm from a crowd waiting for the headliner, but when you do it is so awesome. That show kind of set a bar for me for how great a crowd can be.
Are you excited to see anyone at ACL, you guys have already played with some awesome acts (Foo Fighters & Strand of Oaks who will also be there).
Of course! Tame Impala, Sturgill Simpson, Dwight Yoakam, Kurt Vile, Strand of Oaks, UMO, and all the awesome bands I’ve haven’t yet fallen for. We’ve gotten to play with Strand of Oaks a couple of dates this year, and they’ve become one of my favorite bands. I’m actually listening to them right now!
With your first attendance at SXSW this year and being invited back to ACL the same year, that has to be a good feeling, right?
Absolutely! We had such a great time in Austin at SXSW this past year and are thrilled to be playing ACL – that kind of encouragement is what keeps us focused on moving forward and getting better. We really can’t wait to be there!
Our set at ACL is gonna first thing Friday morning of the second weekend, so for those people out there who are itching to have an awesome, rocking weekend at ACL this year, come ready to kick things off at11:30am!
