Since 2015, we have asked independent artists to share their favorite memories from their time at SXSW. In just three years, this project has become one of our most popular features thanks to the growing interests of bands and singers from around the world. These memories are from Alice Ivy.

The Melbourne-based electronic producer released her debut album, ‘I’m Dreaming’, in February. It’s not your typical electronic fare – i.e., not anything like what The Chainsmokers or Skrillex are creating. Instead, there is a tropical and soulful side to her music. It is relaxing and compelling, intoxicating and mesmerizing, groovy and chilling, yet still dance-able. While her music will lift people’s spirits, the things that lift hers are the simpler things in life.

During SXSW, I was fortunate to stay with local friends on Rainey Street, which is essentially in the heart of the festival. In my opinion, there’s no better way to wake up while recovering from the jet-lag of an 18-hour trip from Melbourne than to hit up a swimming pool, especially when it’s situated on a rooftop, which I did here with my girl Hoodlem from Toronto who was showcasing as well.

Easily my happiest memory from SXSW 2018 was an Austin Puppy Meetup right across the road from where we were staying! I think I must have petted 50 dogs in the space of an hour. My favourite, however, was this giant St. Bernard. His paws were twice the size of my hands.

My mate Flint Eastwood from Detroit was also in town for SX and we 100% had to write together since it’s rare we’re ever in the same city. So we trekked out to a studio in the hill country outside Austin and tracked a new song together… stay tuned!
