The Liminanas 2A few years ago, I stumbled upon The Limiñanas, an indie psych-garage rock band from southern France. Their self-titled album from 2010 was film noir-esque, psychedelic rock at its finest, akin to the fuzzed out style of Portland/San Francisco band Wooden Shjips and Ripley Johnson’s off-shoot project Moon Duo. Their sound also has a touch of the dreamy psychedelia of London’s Veronica Falls and Brooklyn-based Widowspeak and the feverish rock sound of fellow French band Savages.

The brainchild of Lio and Mari Limiñana and supported by Mu & Nadge and others, The Limiñanas have released two other albums in addition to their 2010 debut and several singles since their formation in 2009. Last month, Trouble in Mind Records released a compilation of rare and previously unreleased songs by the French collective, entitled (I’ve Got) Trouble in Mind: Singles and Rare Tracks 2009/2014.

The compilation is a great way to be introduced to the band. Standout tracks include “I’m Dead”, “Je M’en Vais”“(I’ve Got) Trouble in Mind”“Tu Es A Moi”, and “Mobylette”. There is also a really neat version of “Christmas” on the album.

The Limiñanas have established a small following, mostly in their native France, but they have yet to firmly implant themselves within North American musical audiences. This album of rarities might just help the band made some in-roads in the competitive North American album. Have a listen and discover The Limiñanas before everyone else does. This band is on the brink of a breakthrough.

(I’ve Got) Trouble in Mind: Singles and Rare Tracks 2009/2014 can be purchased at Trouble in Mind Records, iTunes, Amazon, and eMusic. You can also stream the album on Trouble in Mind’s Soundcloud page or just listen to it below.
