Over the past five years, Jenny Hval has developed a reputation for creating music that is brutally honest and poignant. The Oslo, Norway singer-songwriter can mesmerize with haunting, melodic overtures, such as on her latest single, “That Battle Is Over”, or pulverize you with gritty rock, such as “I Called”.

On June 9, she’ll release her third album, Apocalypse, girl, from which “That Battle Is Over” is the lead single. Recalling Marissa Nadler, the track is dark, dense, indie folk-rock track, which perfectly matches the post-Communism tone of the song.

Apocalypse, girl will be released on Sacred Bones in North America and Su Tissue in Norway. Hear the lead single below along with “I Called”.

“That Battle Is Over” is part of the Weekend Showcase for March 6, a playlist of some great new music from bands you ought to know.
