We first met Scattered Clouds last year at the RBC Ottawa Bluesfest, and they blew us away with their experimental rock. Based out of Hull, Quebec, which lies across from Ottawa, the trio have slightly restrained themselves on the release of their new album, The First Empire, but ebbing things back a bit is actually a great thing for this band. The music is much more engrossing. It’s deeper and darker, echoing of Montreal’s Suuns.

The highlight of the album is “Enchanteresse”, a far-out, apocalyptic version of The Velvet Underground’s hypnotic music. The First Empire is out on E-Tron Records. You can hear tracks on SoundCloud.

You can also hear “Enchanteresse” and 19 other cool tracks on the April 24th Edition of The Weekend Showcase.
