From the little town of Innisfail, Alberta, which resides between Calgary and Edmonton on the flat plains of the oil-producing province, Amber Edgar is the definition of a hidden gem. Now residing in Hamilton, Ontario, Edgar is about to release her debut EP, Good Will Rise, on May 12, which she said “was a difficult collection of songs for me to record, but I felt they were worth sharing with others because they speak to common experiences — depression, unrequited lust, grief, etc.”
The title track perfectly exhibits these sentiments. It is a minimalistic indie-folk song that echoes of pain and loneliness, of want and isolation. Absolutely stunning. Her EP, we can tell you, is fantastic, so be on the look for it on Tuesday.
The two songs from her debut split single, 2013’s “Honey & Sorrow ” / “Troubles”, are below, and they have an Angel Olsen vibe.
“Good Will Rise” is part of our May 8th Edition of the Weekend Showcase, which includes 21 songs from around the globe. Take a listen.
