All it takes to breakthrough is one change, one opportunity of exposure. For UK singer-songwriter, Kelvin Jones, that occasion happened last year when his single “Call You Home” was posted on Reddit and then shown on US program Good Morning America. He has since signed with Sony Music, and his first single for the mega label is “Closer”, a jivy, uptempo ditty that is a combination of pop and soul. It echoes of John Legend’s optimistic numbers.

Jones’ earlier works, however, are different, more along the lines of Tracy Chapman and Otis Redding. His cover of Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar” is terrific.

Jones’ debut album will likely be released later this year or early in 2016. A couple of tracks of his are below or check out his SoundCloud page for more songs.

“Closer” is one of 20 tracks starring on the May 22nd Edition of the Weekend Showcase. Take a listen and discover some great new music.
