Osheaga in Revue – Day 2 Part 1

On Day 2 I did not recognize any of the artists before the Arkells so in the week before the festival I started to research the earlier acts, the one that most caught my attention was Leisure Cruise so I altered my plans to make it in for them. My research paid off as they turned out to be a great show.

A couple weeks earlier I had seen Arkells at the Ottawa Bluesfest but missed half the performance due to overlapping artists. They keep getting stronger every time I see them so I was glad to be able to catch their entire act. Similarly with Young the Giant, I missed most of their set the last time they played Bluesfest so again I made it up by catching their entire set and they were also fantastic.

Next was one of the hardest decisions I would have to make during Osheaga. I think St. Vincent is simply one of the best live acts in music today. I first saw them at Ottawa Bluesfest in 2014 and they were my surprise favourite act of the entire festival I enjoyed them so much that I made the 3.5 hour drive to Burlington Vermont this past winter to see them again and in a small venue. Again they were fantastic. Knowing how amazing they are live, it was very hard to leave in order to catch an act I had never seen before. I stayed for about half the set before running to the back stage to catch Lion Babe. This is one of those tough choices one has to make when frequenting festivals. Sometimes you have to sacrifice artists you know but have seen before in order to see new artists otherwise you may not get a chance to see new artists at all. I must say Lion Babe was excellent and a lot of fun. I can’t promise I’d make the same choice next time but I’m hoping I never have to because I’d love to see them both again!

I finished my morning off with Christine and the Queens. Honestly, I didn’t know much about them but I did not want to change stages because I knew I needed to be back after the performance. I regret nothing, they put on a very energetic and entertaining performance.

With several excellent performances and heart breaking choices behind me already, this marked only the half way mark of Day 2.
