Editors’ Note: We will continue to share mini-playlists on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, we will share the occasional single from long-time favorites, album reviews, interviews, concert photography, and whatever else comes to mind.

Yesterday, we shared our Most Anticipated Albums for the year; at the top was Agnes Obel‘s fifth studio album, Myopia. One of the many reasons why the Berlin-based, Danish-born multi-instrumentalist and artist made the list is her unrivaled ability to mesh different sonic worlds into one alluring mixture. The arrival of her newest single, “Broken Sleep”, evidences her ingenuity and brilliance.

With just her varied vocals, a small string accompaniment, and a piano, Obel crafts an enchanting soundscape. It is part Nordic folk, part classical music, part orchestral pop, and completely pure fantasy. It is breathtakingly beautiful, where all you want to do is close your eyes and get lost in the sublime subtlety of the track.

Myopia will be released February 21st on Blue Note Records. Pre-order it here and hear the album’s first single, “Island of Doom”, here.

Obel will commence a brief North American tour on January 16th. Her extensive European tour starts February 21st in London. Check her website for details, although most shows are already sold out.
